Our last big code update for July is here to bring you an exciting new aspect to battling: Team Battles!
You can now take up to three Kith into battle at once in the new Unmade Team Arena, which features 12 new Snarls to fight! The enemies here are a little tougher, and the rewards are a little sweeter. Make sure your team is well-matched, because Snarls scale to match the Kith with the highest ability scores!
Please keep in mind that this is a very new feature still in beta testing, so there may be occasional bugs or imbalanced issues you encounter. If you notice something that seems wrong, please let us know in the Technical Support Forum so we can work on fixing it as soon as possible!
Speaking of rewards, Loose Shards can now be used directly for a small, randomized amount of Shards! The Exchange items will still be available in the Bank of Hope for those of you who prefer the value of items to Shards, and we're very open to feedback on what other rewards you'd like to see from battling in the future. Let us know your thoughts and ideas!
One last change for today is an update on some of the battle Strategies. Any Strategy that regains your Kith's HP now comes with a cooldown equal to twice the length of the effect it causes.
Code Update: 7/27/20
Last week's update had some bugs, so here are a bunch of attempted bug fixes! These were particularly nasty bugs to squash, so please let us know in the Technical Support Forum if you find that we've missed any (or inadvertently caused some more to spawn). Edit: If you hit a 'page not found' error, please use the back button and then logout, clear your cache, and login again - that should fix it!
The Arena should remember your most recent battle Kith again. This has actually been expanded so that when we add more Arenas in the future, each Arena will remember your most recent battle Kith, to make it even easier to keep your Kith matched up against the right opponents!
We've fixed the enemy "ghosts" that were attacking after being destroyed. This bug was caused by the new effect code, because effects are calculated at the end of a turn, so enemies that were still alive before effects were calculated could get that one last parting shot in. No longer!
The Try Again button should be working again. During testing on our alpha site this caused the enemies to hog all the turns for themselves, but that should not be the case anymore. If you notice turn order weirdness after using the Try Again button, please let us know in the Technical Support Forum.

Monthly Update: Strategy Effects!
This month's major update is another battle system improvement, starting with Strategies!
All 36 Hope Strategies have been updated with new damage calculations and special effects! The new effects range from targeting all enemies, causing your enemies to lose their turn or take more damage, temporarily increasing your defense or decreasing their ability scores, and even a way to regain a bit of HP while fighting! The damage calculations have been updated to work off a percentage of the enemy's health, with your Kith receiving more or less damage from multiple factors, far more than just your ability score versus their ability score! There's small modifiers for your Kith species, personality, and random luck that can all add or subtract from the damage you do in battle.
Code Update: 7/21/20
Big changes are heading your way! To prepare for a large update later this month, we've changed a few parts of the Battle system.
For one thing, we've switched from it being a hidden opt-in choice to being enabled for all users now. If you still wish to refrain from using the Battle system, you can do so by declining Quests that ask for participation or by simply starting and ending a battle without actually fighting.
You'll notice on the battle preparation page that the way you select Kith and items to go into battle has been updated for a new, more "matching" appearance. You can now easily view your Kith's battle information in a pop-up while deciding who to send into battle. If there is an item limit, instead of displaying a red error message, we now swap the items out for you automatically so that your chosen battle items never exceed the limit.
On the Kith battle pop-up and Kith profile pages, we have changed the display to no longer show default strategies, and will not show the strategies section at all if your Kith has not learned any. Hopefully that helps you choose the best strategies for your Kith's aesthetic! We have also reduced the number of strategies that a Kith can learn from 4 to 3. Anyone with a Kith who has more than 3 strategies will notice their Kith losing one of those strategies within the next 24 hours. I know those can be expensive, so please feel free to comment here if you'd like a Shard refund for a deleted strategy!
The final update for today is not in the Battle system at all, but an improvement to our sign-up page. We've fixed a minor mobile layout bug, added a confirmation email section to help avoid accidental sign-up typos, and changed the confirmation success message to a confirmation page to make it easier to see you've successfully created an account.
As usual, if you encounter any bugs, please report them in the Technical Support Forum so I can take a look and get things fixed as soon as possible!
