After reading up on some of the other current pet sites, I'm thinking of checking out Xanje. I'll credit you for referring me when I do :)

Have you tried Subeta? It has a highly customizable avatar system with thousands of wearable items. The site's glory days are behind it, but there are still several annual events and the original owner is actively trying to add new features. I'm not sure where to go myself - my favorite activity here is raising Kith, and that's because they're so unique compared to other pet sites. I hope that you're able to find a new virtual home!
