What, another Forum Feedback? Yup! My brain was struck by lightning and I had another potential idea for Custom Items I wanted to run by you all.
1. We really want to encourage and support all the artists who help make the site even bigger and better with their artwork! So, while I was thinking about how best to make that happen, either with bundles or being able to re-purchase your submissions or something, I came up with the idea of split sales: every time a user buys your custom item, the submitting user gets a 50% cut. This means your items have some real longevity and can help you make back those Shards and Gems!
This would obviously incentivize making Premium items over non-Premium items, so we’re thinking of setting a simple ratio to help keep things balanced in the store - something like for every 3 non-Premium submissions, you can have 1 Premium submission. The admin(s) reviewing your submissions would still be able to reject items with a note explaining why your submission wasn’t accepted, because we want our Premium items to be high quality, but I’ve seen some of the artwork on here and I’m eager to find out what you can come up with! What do you think?
2. Also, regarding credit (continued from this thread): what do you think about a standardized format in the Description that can be slightly tweaked for the different situations? Something like “Designed by [artist username/s]” if it’s just the one artist submitting it for themselves, then add “and submitted by [username/s]” if it’s being submitted by a user other than the artist.
Please let us know your ideas or any questions in this thread!

We also want to have some incentives for you guys to make all the beautiful recolors of your wonderful items! So I'll be opening up a section in the Behind the Scenes Forum for users who have already had an item accepted into the rotation to request their own recolor submissions at a discount. Rather than having to pay another 500 Gems on a recolor submission, you'll be able to make a trade for 200 Gems to get a submission item that MUST be used for a recolor of an already accepted item.
These recolors will still have to follow all the previous rules for submission, but should have a much easier time getting through since their original has already been accepted. You'll still get the same 50% cut from the item’s sales, and the recolor will have the same price as the original, except in rare cases where a recolor has had special effort applied to it - this will be treated on a case-by-case basis and will be a discussion between the user and myself should the user want the recolor to be priced differently.
The best part? Each non-premium recolor will count towards your total submissions to earn the right to submit a new premium item! This will be a easy way to sell more premium items if you've got another set you want to contribute!
For now, re-color sets will be unbundled as we will have a whole store to stock, but once we get more submissions the re-color sets will be stacked together into a single selection item. (Similar to the Badge Bundle items we have in the Headmaster’s Office now.) So that means you can buy the selection when you see it and then choose the color. It also means if you get the selection item and a new color is made, it will be added to the selection item you already have.
Right now there is the question of how this will affect previews of the items and I have two options I can think of. Since these are not tailored items you won't be able to go to your crafting section to check them all out, but a Dream Avatar kind of function could be provided for users to fully browse through. We also could make up individual preview images similar to what the premium bundles get, but this will be more work on my part.
What do you all think however? Let me know below and if anything sounds great we might go with that solution instead!

Since the day I joined, I was hoping for a Dream Avatar function, so I could plot and plan my budget for different outfits, and be able to search items more effectively! So I am all for that re: recolor previews and non-tailored clothing in general.
I'm still not clear on whether or not we users get to decide if an item we make is for gem sale or shard sale, or if that's based on you guys deciding.

Heck yes!! Ok some comments-
I'm a little worried about how high the percentage is- yes it's good to incentivise but I also worry how much that will flood the economy with shards? Gems I don't see as much of an issue with the ratio but 50% for every shard item sell feels really high to me- maybe 20-25%? Might be worried for nothing but figured I'd bring it up.
And a question I guess- would admins perhaps recommend and item be resubmitted for non-premium in some cases then, or would it primarily be a back in forth kinda thing like with art edits? (Hopefully that makes some sense). I could see wanting to keep premium apparel at some sort of level of complexity, but there may be items that work well as shard clothing (idk if anyone wants premium priced simple wristbands but I'd sure love some for shards.)
I like the standardized format proposed for credit, and think that will work well in the vast majority of instances.

[@Ruevian] In the Notes section of the submission you can address what recommended rarity and price you'd like to set it at, from there we'd decided if we view that as fair or not for the item.
[@Dread] As for flooding the system with shards, its actually not generating any new shards. If anythings it more like we are taking a auction/trade fee from a purchase between two users.
If we get an item in that is requested premium we can reject it with a submission note stating why and offer the user the change to make edits or resubmit as a non-premium item.

[@Ruevian] [@Dread] Right now we're thinking that we'd come up with some basic guidelines on what would be appropriate quality for a premium item submission, and the admin would be able to reject the item with notes if the submission needed any edits to match that standard.
[@Dread] That's a fair concern, and we're open to hear what % people think would work best! The 50% cut was what we came up with initially when trying to think about how many Shards/Gems an artist would want to get from sales to help cover the cost of the submission and their time spent making the artwork.

I don't have the brains to think about all the things right now but one thing I'm curious about: rarity of items will be chosen by staff based on how complex the items are. Would the pricing differ to match?
If so, that'd affect how much money the user gets for an apparel item - and I think there'd need to be some type of guideline for what is what rarity in that case. Could lead to bad feelings if someone put a lot of effort into a thing and got less shards than they felt it was worth.
An alternate option is to have the amount of shards given per purchase be a static number that doesn't change regardless of rarity/cost: though that could also lead to weird balancing in favour of cheaper smaller common items that can be bought more frequently?
I think I'm overthinking this........

HEY YA'LL I JUST GOT A GREAT IDEA
For these new clothings we need a new shop, yeah? And someone needs to run that shop, yeah?
And that someone
should be THE GOOD BOI FRAY
I mean he has all the qualifications, and he doesnt have a shop of his own yet. he needs that next step to succeed. WE GOTTA HELP THE BOI! LET HIM RUN THE SHOP (possibly in a cardboard box stand next to tailored fashions...)

Point by point through the thread, in no particular order:
Aww, Fray running a lil lemonade stand thing next to Andre's shop sounds adorable!
I'll admit, even as somebody who likes the idea of getting return on submission buys... 50% does sound high, especially for premium items. I guess it all comes down to, how much do you guys want people to be solely making art for their onsite living?
Guidelines for rarity/price would be very useful.
...oh gosh, I'd love a Dream Avatar feature... I'm not Mochi with every item onsite, I'd like to figure out great combos without having to try to figure out how to get my hands on stuff. FR added a similar feature and I remember beforehand it was the same sort of "If I buy this, will it match this?". Now, there's a whole lil community of folks who come up with cool ideas for others.

First of all, I think the suggestion for credit sound good. :)
Being one of the people raising the "selling your items" issue, I kinda like the % suggestion. It's different than what I've seen other places, but it could be worth trying out.
Frankly, I don't think shards earned will make much of a difference. You have to earn a looot of shards in order to get gems. But being able to submit some items to premium and make gems really could make a massive difference in getting funding for new custom clothing items.
I'm 110% supportive of the idea of getting recolours at a discount. I never even considered any side would be so generous with this sort of thing, and it'll make a massive difference in regards to afford putting recoloured versions out there.
Also, not particularly about this specific feedback subject, but... I'd really love to make a full set of oread items for the "easy to get" shard shop.
Oreads are essentially rock/mountain dryads, so I feel it'd fit really well into the existing TW world, and it'd be nice to have some more full fantasy creature sets easily available for shards.
But... I figured I'd just check this idea with staff, as I'd be adding to the world a lot more than simply making a pretty dress.
Full oread sets would not be a problem, right? :)

Would it be possible to design something and have it only available to someone else?
Like if I wanted to (as an example) make an exclusive rainbow dinosaur for [@Diana] that only she can use, is that allowed?
