Hi I just joined

Hi I just joined tonight and have been trying to go through the tutorial to figure things out. I can't do a quest yet, as I have no money to buy things. So far the quests I have seen said I am not eligible or I need to go find a book or something. I can't buy a book at someone's store yet so I have to wait. Is there anyone that could help me figure things out? Is there a way to make friends? Sorry for a long, Hi but I have been sort of frustrated and need help. lol
