Annya was never excited about allying with someone. What if they didn't get along? Iris reassured her that she'd never let someone ally with a kith they weren't suited to, but Annya was still scared. When people came to visit the Tatters, she'd hide until they left.

One day, though, a girl with a book came to the Tatters who looked just as nervous as Annya felt. When Iris went to talk to someone else, the girl sat down and started reading. Annya started reading over her shoulder, thinking the girl didn't notice. She did, though, and she invited Annya to read with her. After fifteen minutes, the foundations of friendship were forming – and that's when the girl pulled out the marzipan. Annya had never tasted marzipan before, but when the girl offered her a piece she took it and loved it. Bite by bite, the marzipan disappeared, and by the time Iris came back over Annya had made her choice.

Now, Annya and her ally Nelle spend their time exploring Hope – cooking, sewing, playing, reading, and sharing every moment of it all. There's a lot of stuff out there, and Annya wants to learn about it all – at her own pace, on her own time, when she's ready.
