Joyce and Kaas (The Bashful Whimperial) were walking through the Enchanted forest one day when out of nowhere a baby licorne pops out from the bushes and says "HAVE NO FEAR! I WILL PROTECT YOU LITTLE ONE" Joyce at first assumed the licorne was talking to her, but later found out was referring to Kaas.

See, Kaas at the time of the incident was hiding behind Joyce trying not to be seen by any Avoreals, as Kaas is very much afraid of them. Kaas begged and begged and begged for Joyce to bring Kanriss (The Curious Ferrec) instead, but Joyce wanted Kaas to get outside more.

Well, the Licorne, later to be known as Keidan, saw Kaas hiding. Being the brave little Licorne she is wanted to protect Kaas. Joyce allowed an alliance with Keidan in hopes that Kaas would befriend her and be a little braver and for Kaas to influence Keidan to be less bold.

The alliance worked out wonderfully. Kaas and Keidan became thick as thieves (Kanriss, meanwhile, sat and read books nonstop). Whenever Joyce went out with Keidan, Kaas would happily volunteer to come along. The friendship between the two will go down in history as a close and loving one.

While both Keidan and Kaas are now grown, Joyce is still making alliances with other kith. Keidan protects all of the kith in their happy family, and Kaas is not afraid anymore to welcome them in.
