After the discovery of The Coral Reef, Joyce went to visit. Though she is a tree-dwelling creature, Joyce wanted to see what all the hullaballoo was about this new remnant of pirates and mermaids. She couldn't imagine it being better than the Enchanted Forest in which she calls home, but she was curious. Along with her came Kanriss (The Curious Ferrec). He, very so obviously, was curious about the Coral Reef.

Then Kanriss saw a little fish thing hiding behind a rock in the ocean. Kanriss got extremely excited about the creature he has never seen before and ran up to him. As Kanriss asked a million and five (Exactly, by the way. Joyce counted it herself), the creature hid behind Joyce.

As Joyce continued to explore, Kanriss continued to ask the poor creature everything about the new remnant. He never left Joyce's side, as he was too afraid to leave. The creature became known as Kaas the Bashful Whimperial. Eventually, Kaas stopped being so afraid of Kanriss and started opening up a bit more. Though Kanriss was too overbearing, Joyce has to make sure the peace between the two remained.

Kaas still hides behind Joyce, because living in the Enchanted Forest is very frightening to Kaas. Avoreals are too frightening to him. As the Shadow Stage has been discovered, Joyce will not even dare to try to make Kaas come with her there.
