There was always sunshine outside the Tatters. Within the warped reality of the Kith's homeland, sunlight barely pierced the thick canopy of trees above. Most of the light was produced by bioluminescent mushrooms and a variety of other flora; sunlight was a very rare luxury that Alrin only saw whenever a new student approached the Tatters for a new Kith companion.

Alrin has seen many of these students come and go, taking new friends along with them. Alrin was never chosen to be a companion for any of the students, new or old. He simply stood at the edge of the Tatters, waiting for a student who would choose him to be their companion. He was never chosen.

That is, until he met Aluwin.

In terms of age, Alrin was a lot older than Aluwin. In fact, one could say that Aluwin was a lot more naive than Alrin. Needless to say, they were the perfect match for each other. Alrin's outgoing personality and more practical experience in life helps Aluwin overcome his anxiety, and Aluwin's experience with the human world satisfies the curiosity Alrin accumulated over the years of being at the edge of the Tatters.
