Just adding this here so I can maybe have a laugh about it in the future:
I had no idea whatsoever on how to use all those battle items, and kept on getting defeated right before I defeat the last devastating Snarl. When I figured out how to use those items, I defeated all those Snarls and still had half my health left... Gods, I'm a doofus.
