I just earned the charm for the new kith, but when I used it nothing happened and now it's gone

Yeah, unfortunately there's no obvious change when you use items like that. Try allying with whatever kith the charm was for, in the premium tab of the Tatters- if the charm worked, it should allow you to do it now.

I did try, the button is still grey. Also I suddenly have 1 new gem. Did it turn into a gem?

On top of using the charm you also need to have a spot free for a new kith to ally with it in the tatters, so my guess is that you have no spot open for a new kith yet. Once you unlock a new spot you should be abke to ally with that kith.

Do you have another Kith Slot available? You also need a slot for a Kith to get a new one - either by using a Kith Nest or by raising one of your current Kith to 400+ in every stat.
