I know the slasher was shady character, but what did he do?

okay, serious answer: we don't know. It's never been outright said, as far as I know? Like the name is clearly a joke about how he writes slash fiction and "slashes" the Scribe's books to edit them how he sees fit.
We DO know the Thespians were all very scared when he first showed up, so I personally think he was kind of a Big Deal in The Shadow Stage before he left. Given Shady's clear connection to The Narrator, it's my personal headcanon that Narrator has Slasher doing some of his dirty work aka murderatin'.
