Catch up on the Event so far

What do you have there, my Dragon? Tearing pages from that book and burning them one by one... It certainly makes for a dramatic sight, watching the paper curl into ash around you as it drifts to the floor. But I thought that you had planned to go out hunting again this afternoon?

Thou art mistaken, Royal Advisor. I am bound by no laws and no schedules save for my own whims. When my hunt proved infuriating, I decided that I cared not, and returned here to the libraries to vent my wrath upon the volumes therein...

But... No, I... My anger dissipated more quickly from my chest than I had expected, and I felt... no need for such an impetuous act. Hence, I have merely turned my attentions to this single notebook, which is well worth the destruction.

Ah... your royal schedule, prepared by your previous Advisor to instruct you on all of your obligations. Worthy of destruction indeed. But what is that, written on today's page? "Host the Alliance-themed November Site Contest, to judge the Kith and Writing that the community likes best"? Oh, what a fitting instance of dramatic irony...

Your Majesty, by your leave, why don't I take this amusing little task into my own stage directions? I can play host starting today and continue until November 24th at 12:00 (noon) CHT, just as originally planned. We can even entice the entrants with the same prizes, and offer to give the winner of each category 100 Gems, as well as a special Achievement and some unique items.

I have no need of thee at the moment, so yes, I shall grant thee leave to toy with thy enemies as thou wilt. But heed my words - once I have reduced these foolish demands of etiquette into cinder between my claws, we shall pay yet another visit to what remains of the Heart, for I crave to delve deeper still into the Ritual that thou hast been working alongside me these past weeks. The tapestry of magic that we have woven thus far has sparked a fierce joy throughout my soul - hampered though we have been by my misguided father.

How can he not comprehend that his continued resistance is counter to the plans that he and I once fervently discussed? Can he not trust that I do only what I must?! His long-term hopes for this Ritual were accomplished overnight by our alternations - why does that fool still fail to see it?!

It matters not! I can act without anyone's permission. The Ritual calls me back... I have so much deeper to delve. Already I grow restless at the thought of it... so do not keep me waiting long, Advisor, lest my temper turn to thee!

Attempting to keep a Dragon from her hoard? I should never be so foolish. Do not fret, I will be along as soon as I have finished my preparations. I agree: there is much work that we must yet do together...

But in the meantime! Let me see. A Kith Contest category... Might this be a suitable way to scout out some new recruits to join our Underlings? Of course, I must work within the... limitations of this particular performance, but perhaps with a bit of extra persuasion...

(No! That - that MONSTER! I'll never let him capture the rest of us, never!

When I think about how long it took me to console and counsel all of those Shadow Stage Kith, after they'd finally been freed from that corrupted "Alliance" that he'd forced on them as soon as they stepped onto his Stage...

When I... when I remember how it felt to be seized as his puppet, with all my muscles shaking as he commanded my movements... When the only thing keeping hope in my heart was thinking of my Alliance with Nic...!

NO. I won't let it happen to anyone else! I WON'T!)

As for this Writing Contest category... It never hurts to gather up a few fresh sources of inspiration. Who knows how long my overeager Dragon will keep hold of her own Inspiration, after all?

Yes, I will make a sacrifice for the sake of the story and peruse their work, though I doubt that it will prove enjoyable to read whatever trite words these railing critics manage to eke out... How predictably disappointing it has been, watching all of their careful dissections of the text dissolve into mindless insults from the very moment that I made my appearance. As though there were no more secrets that they might yet learn...

Still, so much can be accomplished with the right guidance. I have no doubt that their work will benefit immensely from a few of my... subtle corrections.

(Seriously?! That control freak couldn't offer constructive criticism if his Role depended on it! I can feel my fingers itching... Veilous, where's my quill? Get that out of your mouths! This is not the time for stress eating, c'mon...)

(IRIS?) What are you doing, sneaking around so close to the Narrator? No, wait, let me guess. He nabbed the Headmaster, right? Classic revenge plot. So now you've got this dramatic parallel going, where first your Ally rescued YOU from the Narrator when you were trapped back on the Shadow Stage, and now you think it's your turn to rescue HIM...

It's not gonna work, you know. The Narrator may be smug, and he's clearly having fun playing a fully villainous Role this time around, but he's not stupid. The guy always learns from his mistakes, and he never met a trope that he couldn't twist to suit his own ends.

Look, I've been staying with the Pathfinder, and she's helping me print up some of these basics for people to learn his favorite genres and plot twists, the narrative clichés that he relies on when he's feeling lazy... Though this Draconic Forest must be giving him tons of fresh material, because his scripts haven't been this unique in years. It's really getting under my skin!

And don't even get me started on that Dragon in her tacky costume! So what, he's listening to HER creative input now? All of a sudden he's willing to share the byline?! Not to mention that he's letting her wield some of his ancient magic, when he wouldn't even let me ASK QUESTIONS ABOUT IT!

"By your leave, your Majesty..." UGH. There's just no way. Not even Damsel got double billing with the Narrator himself. What's his motivation here? Where's the plot twist? There must be some major advantage to sharing the spotlight while he's in the Forest, or he'd never have let himself be relegated to the Role of the Advisor...

Hmm... Is it because he's like, just a self-insert in someone else's story? The Pathfinder says they had three Creators over here instead of one... Does that mean that in the Forest, it takes more than one set of hands to turn the pages?

Oh my, that's a curious thought. I hadn't considered that collaboration might be a requirement here, but the Enchanted Forest does often seem to do things in threes... and I certainly agree that his methods are different this time around.

For example, I've always suspected that it was easy for the Narrator to control his "Stagehands" because they'd never had any Ally other than him, which is why they could break free by forming strong Alliances with the Thespians instead... and why I was able to shake off his strings when I heard Nicholas calling my name, drawing me back to him through our shared bond.

But the Enchanted Forest Kith... So many of them already had strong Alliances! Yet during the turmoil, their Allies were begging, and pleading, and calling their names, and not a single one so much as batted an ear... Oh, it was so horrible to watch!

We can't just stand idly by and let this destruction continue! If collaboration is giving him strength, then we should collaborate, too! You've heard his plots for the November Site Contest - what if we two team up to encourage the students from Hope when he isn't watching? I can protect the little ones as best I can, and you can help out the writers!

Psh! I love it. You hear that, audience? Forget that guy, and give us your best work! The theme is Alliances, and you can just go ahead and ignore the Narrator's critique - we're gonna choose the Winners based on the number of Cheers that their entry receives, just like usual. Here, I'll even write up some quick Rules for you guys!

Okay, that's settled. Now where's that grappling hook? Scribbles, if you eat my escape route, you're going on a diet. I gotta get back to the Pathfinder and her printing press...

(Iris! You're okay! Don't worry, we'll find a way to free everyone.

But... Everything being done in threes worries me... If that's what's happening, is The Narrator wanting to do to the winner what he did to The Princess?

... Just gives more reasons to go by Iris' and Scribe's rules...)

[@Celariel] Pretty disappointed that you'd let this two-bit hack,
take control like this due to motivation lack,
It is you on the throne, though truthfully I'd much rather reach,
through to the kind-hearted Princess, to her I beseech,
But, do what you will, but the more you let slip,
The more that may be firmly in his incorporeal grip

[@Taiga] Actually, everything being done in threes may work in our favor. If the Narrator only has one collaborator when he needs two, that may make him easier to defeat (and gives us a better chance of freeing Celariel from his influence).

Not to mention, the Narrator doesn’t really like sharing the spotlight. He may be open to it now, but over time he‘ll probably get sick of it. Maybe that’ll cause some discord between him and the Dragon, which could weaken him further and give us even more of an advantage.
