i've been hunting for that recipe for a couple days now and haven't seen it. i'm starting to wonder if i'm not at the right level to find it. even so i'd like to buy one so i at least have it for my quest.

Alas, I don't have the recipe, but to confirm something you were wondering - you do need to be specific levels to find recipes in the shop. For Dark Roast Coffee, you need to be Level 3 at cooking or higher.
(You can check the levels for each recipe by reading their description in the Kitchen or searching them in the wishlist to see the description there.)
