Discworld 0
Thought that the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett might need its own thread! Discworld is one of my favorite series.
If you've never heard about it, Discworld is a fantasy parody that takes place on a flat world (which stands not he back of four elephants, which also stand on the back of a giant turtle). They follow different casts of characters in different parts of the world and all their strange adventures.
My favorites are the ones with Sam Vimes or any of the witches, with Thud! being my favorite book.
How about you? You read Discworld at all? Which ones do you like?

I love Discworld! I've only read the first six books and it's a year since I last read one. Though I bought one as a graduation present to myself because i know I will love it - just haven't got around to reading it yet.
I love the humor in the books, but slowly I've realized that not everybody feels that way, which is a shame, but also okay. I've also realized that I probably should't read them in public for fear of laughing out loud and people thinking I'm crazy.
The last I read was Wyrd Sisters which I've wanted to reread since working with Macbeth in English class. I love how Pratchett plays on known "things", but still manage to make them completely his own.

I've never really got to read them, as they weren't quite in my library (very few in the series was translated to Danish). Some day!
I really like Good Omens, though. And has read a few other books by him as well. :)

Good Omens was great but dAAAANNNG Do I Love Going Postal.
I actually was somewhat late to the Terry Pratchett train, and only got into it because of Rynnay talking about it a bunch. I do not regret, but man I wish I had more time to read further in. (I've only got three books under my belt so far.)

Yeah, it's a shame they never really got translated to Danish. Then again, a lot of the magic is in the language and I don't remember from my reading of the first how well it is conveyed in translations.

Good Omens is one that I started to read but then never got around to finishing. I might still have it around somewhere, I should go look for it...

I've read several of them, but it was years ago, and I don't think I read them in any particular order. I enjoyed all of them, though! The Vimes/Watch books are maaaaaybe my favorite.

I've been reading them mostly chronologically, which I know nobody recommends, but I've really been enjoying them because I didn't know what to expect to begin with. (Going Postal, which I read out of order, is still my favorite right now)

I've recently started watching the discworld cartoon again after finding it all uploaded on YouTube. For being so old, it's still quite great.

Okay, I have a confession:
In high school, someone pulled out a novel with a ring-shaped space station on the cover and asked someone else if that looked like a discworld, and I've assumed ever since that Discworld was a hard sci-fi series.
I only realized how wrong I was when I read this thread just now.
Oops.

I'd actually also assumed it was in the sci-fi genre based on the name, to be honest. I always thought it was Disc-World and some planetary altercation or issues so I've never really explored it before.
To those of you who have read it, how would you describe/detail it to someone that has no idea what you're talking about?
