I will not recount any of the fanfiction i've read recently but I did read a comic called Beasts of Burden. Like supernatural but with dogs and a more coherent plotline.

Kingkiller Chronicles is really good, for those of you into non-fiction and who are interested in science (specifically, genetics), The Epigenetics Revolution was amazing.
