This sure is a lot of items, huh? Just... don't think too hard about how they fit in this room, okay?

What are Custom Items?

"Custom Items" are the user-created items on Tattered World! The official Rules and Tutorial can be found at these links, and I'd recommend reading through to learn how it works, but the short version is, if you buy a Custom Clothing Submission or Custom Kith Stage Submission from the Headmaster's Office, you'll be able to submit your own art files to make your own clothing that you and others can wear on the site!

I want a Custom Item but I can't draw!

Check out the Custom Wearable Shop forum! There are a lot of regular custom creators who take commissions, so you can look through the threads there to see who's got art you like, who's taking commissions, what their prices are, and find someone who might be able to make your item for you!

A note: If you want the item to be private so that only you can wear it, PLEASE make sure to tell the artist ahead of time -- some folks only make public items or have different prices for private. The default on Tattered World is to assume the item will be public for anyone to buy!

I can draw but I don't have the gems!

It might be worth setting up a thread over in the Custom Wearable Shop forum! A lot of artists will draw items they'd like to submit, and put them up in their thread "for sponsorship," -- meaning someone else can sponsor the item by buying the Custom Clothing Submission to send to the artist. If other people like your item enough that they want to be able to wear it, they might sponsor you!!
You can take a look at other creator's threads to see how the process usually works. Make sure to work out ahead of time if you plan to give your sponsors the free copy of the item you get when you submit; some artists do this and some don't.

A note: it can be EXTREMELY hard to guess what's going to be "popular" enough to get sponsored, so honestly? Just make the items you wanna make! Keep sharing your ideas and you never know what's gonna catch someone's eye.

I can draw but I'm not sure if it'd be very good....

You can always give it a try! Download the template and try sketching some items -- you don't have to submit anything until you get a concept you like!

And if you want some advice on item-making, check out the Custom Items Tips & Tricks thread -- there's advice from folks who've made a lot of items before, and you're welcome to jump in with an item you're working on and get some help workshopping it to make it even better!

I can't draw AND I don't have any gems!!

While there's no guarantee on getting a thing for free, many custom creators are interested in hearing what kinds of clothing people want! So we have a couple threads for it:
The Custom Item Suggestion Sheet is the place for you if you have an idea of a type of item you'd really like to see. I recommend posting in the thread to let folks know you've added some suggestions, as well as adding your item to the list, since that'll bump the thread and alert anyone who's following the thread to check the sheet.
And The Recolour Wishlist For Non-Gem-Havers is the thread for custom items that already exist, but not in the colour you really want -- you can leave general thoughts here like "I wish more things came in X colour," and if you make specific wishes like "MagpieM's striped waistcoat in kelp green," sometimes kind folks will grant them!

Where do I buy existing Custom Items?

You can buy other user-created items at Backstage Broker, where they refresh randomly like a normal shop, but you can also buy them in user shops! The description of an item (which you can find using the Detailed Item Search) will always say who made it, and you can go to that user's profile and find a link to their shop to buy the item anytime.

And Himochi keeps a thread with a List Of All Custom Shops if you want to browse!

If you want to buy a premium Custom Item (that is, one that costs gems), I would actually recommend using the dressing room! When you try on a premium item that you don't own, there'll be a dropdown arrow with the option to buy it, straight from the dressing room! It can be a little cheaper this way!

That's all the basics of How To Acquire Custom Items that I can think of for now, but let me know if there's anything you think I left out, or some resources that should be linked here, and I'll see what I can do!!
