There were a couple of other people who've heard this one before, maybe they can think of a better clue. OTL

That made me laugh....
Quini's "Iceberg" guess has been the closest guess yet, though.

The only other guess I could make would be "glaciers," because maybe the "-iers" sounds like "ears" (even though I pronounce it as "GLAY-shurs")?
Idk carry on.

Again, you're thinking on the right scale...
(the "ears" are indeed that kind of punny non-ears. But the kind of pun where you say, "How do they have ears?" and then groan horribly in realization.)

A mountain? Because the people on it (mountaineers) would give it "mountain" "ears"?

Woohoo! Now to work on the detention one.
@theblackbird Can the teacher wait until the day of the quiz to announce who gets detention?
And/or could she assign the detention to be held on an arbitrary date, but not announce the date until the day of the quiz? (Not sure if that wording makes sense, but basically maybe the students would at least make sure to show up for detention, because at least at my school missed detention --> suspension lol)

A teacher wants all her students to take a quiz, but most of them usually like to skip. However, because she's pretty quick to write detentions (and administration isn't super happy with that), she's only allowed to write one detention for a student that skips, even if everyone in the class does. She is also required to tell the class who will be getting the detention.
How can she make everyone take the quiz by using the threat of a single detention?
