The Union train station aka PDX? Yes, I know it too. Also the King Street train station. Those two in particular I get stuck in more often....
the Chicago one, thankfully, people moved and now I haven't had to deal with the horrid 6-hour layover there in more than a decade. Whew.
But the Union train station is at least ridiculously close to a number of buslines/MAX lines, which means if there's much time then you can escape to a farmer's market or Powell's or wherever else. I hear Voodoo Donuts is walking distance but haven't tried that one yet.

Well, I was there between the hours of 2am and 7:30am so there wasn't much for me to do but sneak around and be shooed off seats I found by security peoples.

Aw, that's no fun! Couple blocks south there's a place open until 3am but that'd still have left you stuck for most of the time. Bother.

Yeah, and I hadn't slept the night before and already got lost in DC once that day because I was having too much fun riding the trains. I didn't feel like leaving the station in the middle of the night if I didn't have to.

And those hard wooden benches aren't the most comfortable, either. At least there's a restroom where you can splash cold water on your face.
:/
(It does seem odd there's not a cheap hotel right across from the larger train stations, though. If travelers could walk half a block, and sleep for five hours in between... feels like there would be a market for that!)

Honestly it'd have to be really cheap to get the business though. Most of the people there, including myself, looked like we didn't have anything more than an extra 20 dollars to spare.
... Still waiting for capsule hotels to become a thing* though. They actually might become that cheap, especially if people don't abuse them.

Yes, would love to see those show up in the U.S. Or even more hostels.

C'mon world, I know you can deliver. Give me capsule hotels already.
... also capsule apartments. Gosh I love metabolic architecture.

I'm too tired and it's too early to draw anything beautiful and detailed, but I hope this will suffice.
Also, I'm actually slightly worried about how you're doing...? Like, I think you should probably take more care with your health(?) Sorry if I'm being overbearing or anything, I'm just a bit concerned.
