What to Unlock

Not sure if this should go here or in the Q&A section but I figure it's more discussion based than a question about site mechanics

But I just got my first set of 4 secrets!

As such, I can now unlock a new Remnant but I'm curious which one people think is the best one to grab first?

The Solarium since the event is currently active (and I'm gaining rep with RiGBy at least)? Or should I stick to the order they're in on the explore page?

Are there mini-events in the other remnants? Things like the narrator I've heard about in shadow stage or the Everstorm stuff with the coral reef? Or is all that confined to flavor text and the standard quest system?

There's a few things that can affect decisions with order of unlock - difficulty of quests, ease of earning money, aesthetics, etc.

The Enchanted Forest is one of the harder to level up quests, and the quests there aren't super profitable, so it can take a while to gain reputation there to get more secrets - but it has cooked foods that will reward a lot of shards if you have the Shadow Stage quests.

The Coral Reef is probably the least developed of the four remnants IMO (it released very close to the Shadow Stage, and the Stage got a bigger event presence because of that). It's fairly easy to gain reputation there, since a lot of the quests will reward items that then chain into other Reef quests, plus there's a few quests that reward decent shards.

The Shadow Stage is pretty popular as a first choice, just due to aesthetics - but the quests there can be challenging. There are also a lot of good profit quests but many require items from the Forest or Reef, so it's a bit less profitable on its own. There's also only 5 NPCs there, so that's one less secret.

The Cosmic Solarium is interesting because so far we don't have very much content. Unlocking it now will make the event quests easier, and let you see everything open up as the event progresses - but it'll also make progress harder with the rest of the site.

There are enough secrets in Hope to unlock the remnants in any order, but if you choose the Solarium first you have to get basically every other secret in Hope before you can unlock another remnant. So it's something you'd have to decide if it's worth it or not.

Hopefully this helps a little! My personal choice would be probably Solarium first, but I enjoy the events most so I'm biased in that regard.

One thing I will say is that most of the old events in the existing remnants have passed by - there might be more events in the future focusing on them, but things like the Narrator and the Everstorm aren't active there right now - just quests that might mention those events.

I'm also tempted to go with the Solarium even though the only real event quests I've been doing are the 'read, eat, play' quests and the cleaning supply quest that RiGBy gives, ha.

I enjoy the space aesthetic so that or shadow stage would probably be the aesthetic choice anyway. I also happened to pick a Shadow Stage Kith (I'm assuming) right off the bat so there's that. Although, granted, I did pick this Kith because I thought it was an actual Dragon Kith and the thing the dragon was holding was a statue and not the other way around, whoops.

But I like him either way, ha.

I've got two other secret quests going now, for Piper and Jay so that's already half of another unlock assuming they're all 4 secrets. Thanks to the event Lycus's rep skyrocketed and I just finished up getting Robin's. Unfortunately, everyone else in Hope is 3 hearts or below with the closest being Andre with a whopping 68 rep, ha. So the other 2 secrets might not come so easy since I don't seem to be doing great with their quests.

That and Jay's quest is waiting on a level 8 recipe while I'm sitting pretty at level 6 but eh, it's a start.

Either way, enough rambling to myself. Thank you for the advice [@Himochi] ! I'll sit on it a bit longer to think but might just bite that bullet and choose space because space.

*slides in* I won't repeat too much of what Mochi said, since its a lot of good info. I agree with Mochi about the Coral Reef getting the least development so far- the event that focused on discovering it actually focused on the npcs in Hope and the Enchanted Forest as the threat of the Everstorm loomed over, while the Shadow Stage focused on the new npcs of that remnant. In terms of order of unlocking, I agree with Mochi that the EF is one of the most difficult, so while it is my personal favorite remnant, I don't recommend it as a first time unlock (at least for now, quest balancing is slowly in the works and will probably get there....eventually).

I disagree slightly with Mochi about the Shadow Stage vs. Reef- there are a few that chain in the stage as well, and some of the ones that chain for the reef involve cooking tools that can get expensive if you are trying to grind for rep really quickly. CR has slightly more cooking quests that can be profitable, both with Hope food and CR food, but if you aren't huge into cooking it may not be as much of a difference (Scribe in TSS also has a 'cooking' quest that's profitable that sometimes involves coffee, tea, or just the coffee beans, so there is still some good profit there.) Really between these two imo you can really choose based on aesthetics mostly, whether you are more interested in the beach/mermaid aesthetic or spooky aesthetic of the stage.

The Solarium is neat, and if you want to be in the middle of the event it could be a good choice, but its not going to be fully unlocked for....probably at least another month? I personally don't recommend unlocking the Solarium first, as you don't have access to much outside of RiGBy's shop as of right now, and there are no secrets to gain there and won't be for awhile. You can unlock it next and you would be fine, but you would need all secrets from Hope to unlock your next one, while if you unlocked CR or TSS next, you have additional NPCs you could work towards secrets with if the Hope ones were giving you trouble.

So TL:DR imo order of unlock I would recommend is CR or TSS (Which you like better)- Solarium- then any order for what you have left.

Whoops was typing while you were answering Mochi, a few things-

Second unlock is actually 6 secrets, so there will be a few more to grab.

If it helps, you can actually send you kith out to grab a recipe that's higher than your level if that is easier than grinding the next few levels in cooking!

There is no loss of rep now if you log in, so if you do the dailies for the ones you are trying to get up you will get at least 1 point a day, so shouldn't be too much longer if you've got others at 3 hearts!

I was mostly thinking about the amount of CR quests that chain the cheap Misc. items from Ogenus and ingredients from Tethys that get given out a lot - people have so many spares of those Ogenus items that they're always in the lab during pushes.

Meanwhile, a lot of the Stage quests are clothing quests that I end up declining - CR has some of those but they're only really for one NPC.

[@Dread]

Ah, thank you for the reminder. I pretty much just auto set my Kith on shard duty and forget the item option. I imagine once I get my second Kith I might remember the abilities a bit more, ha.

Also for the secret quota and the further insight into the remnants.

I might wait to see what the next step in the event is before choosing just to see what else might open up. Don't wanna pick another remnant then suddenly have the Solarium become a more viable option - although I imagine that's probably a few more steps in, considering.

Space might be a very good aesthetic but beach and masks aren't bad ones either ;P

Thank you both for the help!

That's funny, cause I have a very different experience- the wolf quests where you give her meat chains into the Hero quest the requests clothing a lot for me (though part of why that happens is due to the CR being unlocked and wolf asking for seafood a lot). Hero also has easier quests on top of that though, with kith coterie. Dollmaker as some clothing quests but also has the salad quests which are profitable, and if you don't have EF unlocked you will only be asked for the Hope salads which are a lot easier imo.

I end up declining a lot more CR quests nowadays than TSS as an overall remnant *shrug*

Glad to help! Waiting to see more things open up might be a good idea for now - we've only had small amounts of items and one Proper NPC reveal so far, so there might be more that's Super Your Taste or something that hasn't yet been revealed.
