Transformation is fun! I.. don’t really mean to do it, it just happens.
Mainly when Churb comes out of his skin-shell.

Oh, if you want to ask about some things...let me see I've got training with Valeria, and I've still got the full schedule Dynrial foisted on me with the elven nobles...hmmmm. Maybe I can ask Cela if she would be open to a double date, would be nice to sit down with another couple and chat. Though I guess if you want to ask me things I should try to stop by by myself. I'll try to swing by the nurse's office soon- not sure what I can answer, I don't exactly remember a time not being able to transform, but I'm always happy to chat.

If one can reverse healing into harming... what would poison reverse into? Still consumables, but pleasant and beneficial rather than toxic? Seems like magical candies and potions could fit.
As for transformation magic... healing as manipulating the body? A very thorough illusion? A manifestation of light's truth-and-hope-and-flashy-aesthetic nature?
[@Moth King of Moths]
In theory, it does qualify as assault... the magical equivalent of stabbing someone and taking them to the hospital afterward. There are possible complications due to the whole... removal of evidence... thing... but, well, we have fourteen entire schools of magic here. Some of them can surely be used to discover the truth of the matter. (Also, the healing can be more or less neat and traceless depending on the skill of the healer or, in your... friend's... case, the quality of the enchanted item.)
However, it is worth noting that, to my knowledge, the Remnants have yet to figure out who has jurisdiction over crimes committed in the Tatters. Do with that what you will.
[@Dread]
Yeah I was weirded out too when I found out... (I suspect some of the students you've seen with weird appearances are... cheating with illusion magic. I've accidentally walked through an incorporeal appendage or two.)

Transformation Magic and Sugarmancy seem to me to be more an issue of technique rather than base type. Sugarmancy uses fire and water, along with....what must be some other schools, all together to make enchanting sweets. Transformation magic seems to be a combination of enchanted items and natural power, but....I truly don't know. I'd ask a certain [@Shady Character] how he does it, but you know he never tells me anything.

Does it really stand up as assault in a court of law if the wound heals as soon as I- I mean as soon as someone removes it? Asking for a friend.

What a great introductory course! I'm sure many mages will find it extremely helpful, both beginners and the more experienced. I wish I had access to it when I was just starting out; it was sometimes difficult to catch Lenta when they had enough free time for my questions ...though I did eventually find other, um, teachers...
Uh, anyway, I want to echo the importance of minding your energy reserves! This goes double if you find yourself in battle: you don't want to overdo it and not be ready for the next wave of snarls. That's why you'll rarely find me without a staff or other tool in unpredictable situations.
This is important for any fellow elemental beings out there, too! Since we are pretty much magic incarnate, overexertion can rob us of our physical forms. There's been a few times I've been reduced to a cloud of light floating around my house after I messed up a complex spell. Sure you can regenerate, but that takes time, and you don't want to be, like, a puddle of water or something when a particularly nasty snarl attacks.

Hm, perhaps? But harming is less a reversal of healing than it is simply using the same magic differently. And many Shadow Stage foods created by Sugarmancy can be toxic to outsiders....*cough* nightshade *cough*.
Oh, good point! There certainly seems to be a lot of light involved in the GC's transformation magic... perhaps a combination of light and healing magic, with a dash of magical items.

Oh wow, I thought that was just a cautionary tale to scare mages into being careful! That sounds....yeesh. Glad you could pull yourself back together....

Oh this would explain things....spotting illusions is particularly tricky for me. Maybe I don't need to be quite as careful about bumping into all these extra wings and tentacles and such than I thought 🤔

P.S. notes on the sigils I designed:
Spoiler
You may or may not have noticed that the sigils get more complicated the more difficult the school of magic. I also used consistent design elements per grouping: elemental magic is simple with three dots, with the exception of shock and ice which only have two; physical magic has a circle overlaying the sigil and four dots; mental magic has a C-shaped line with two circles at the end and five dots; metaphysical magic has the c-shape with two circles, a long uneven V shape, short curves around a circle and five dots, with Time magic having six dots.
As for how I designed the sigils, I took a page from Wicca. I used some appropriately thematic words, crossed out the vowels and any duplicate consonants, assigned numbers to them based on an alphabet grid of 9 columns, then put 1-9 on a circle. From there you just draw lines from one number to another, then added artistic flourishes.

Well, you know how sometimes when you're nervous, your legs turn to jelly? ....fish?
Luckily, I've now got all that transformation magic nicely under control.

This sort of thing is par for the course in the Reef, but when I lived in the Solarium, people were pretty unprepared for all of my aquatic forms! Fortunately, the few times that I got trapped somewhere, one of the friends that I'd made offered to carry me where I needed to go, irregardless of stinging barbs. Actually, he seemed to really relish the opportunity to cradle me in his arms! I bet you'll never guess his name... ;)
I've never wielded healing magic, so I can't say how similar it is or isn't, but when I get, say, a Merfolk tail, that's definitely a transformation that changes my limbs from inside and out! It doesn't hurt or anything, just tickles a little. As for Shimmerfin magic, we absolutely manipulate the water and tides, so it's elemental in that regard, though we're always cautious about the tale of the Sea Witch, and--
Ow! OW! Why does everyone suddenly think it's okay to step on my tentacles?! HELP!

...Wait, jellyfish? How in the world did you handle that?

Yes, please, give us your thoughts on the Coral Reef's transformation magic. Is it similar to healing magic, where you manipulate the flesh and bone? Is weather magic a manipulation of elemental foundations, like stirring flame and ice and shock for a storm?
