Hi, newbies!
Tutorial TutorialHi, newbies! 3
[P.] We've been getting a lot of new folks lately! I know at least part of that is due to current events, but I'm curious - how did you hear about this site? I saw mentions of YouTube, did someone feature us in another video?
Anyway, welcome!

I was referred here by [@EonArisen] (Did I do that right?) when they were discussing the Kith on Discord a long time ago. Thought I would check it out, and now a few of my minions and acquaintances play so I hang around
I'm slowly getting more comfortable as I loiter around collecting highlighters. Nice to meet you, everyone!

[P.] [@Zeadkin] Looks like you did!
(Also, it has been an absolute delight watching your ascent to power.)

I heard about this game back in October through PetSimmerJulie's videos. Her videos are quite out of date now, but the idea of the site stuck in my brain regardless.

Practically the only online game I've been steadily active on for the past 2 years is Sylestia. So I was hopping around random profiles out of utter boredom, and someone (sadly, I forgot whose profile it was) said they'd recently joined Tattered Weave, so I thought, "Never heard of it, why not?" Even though almost every single other game I've been on has never seemed to click because I'm picky.
Soooo I searched it up, and holy heck that is a beautiful homepage. Aight, we'll join, and I never left happily ever after.
That was actually not the case, what really happened was that I dragged [@Orcality] on (who is less picky with online games than me), then vanished a few weeks later for reasons I forgot.
Then recently I got bored and thought, "Whatever happened to Tattered Weave?" I logged on again and... oh dear I don't remember a thing and what is this strange artifact in my inventory and why is my kith sassy and why is my birthday wrong, and I left in sheer terror. (Yeah, if I return to something I played a decent bit after a long time of not playing, everything just seems so messy that I either have a dire need to restart or run away screaming.)
A few days later, Orca apparently had an epiphany and PMed me on Sylestia like "I SHALL NOW DRAG YOU BACK TO TW" and didn't stop bothering me until I decided to stay. And then we dragged [@lalalanmao] on. And now I'm wondering if it's a strategy to guilt people into staying by showering them with expensive things. This community is slightly too nice. Anyways, yeah I'm probably sticking around but I have yet to loudly make my presence known on the forums.
And I might drag someone else on later. Only time will tell xD
Aaaand yeah that's all my rambling for today. Thanks for listening to my TED Talk.
TL;DR Found this on someone's profile. Summoned Orca. Disappeared only to be summoned back by Orca. Why must you do this to me, Orca.

[P.] [@Larkian] Definitely not unusual for people to come and go, we all have a lot of stuff going on in our lives, and we also all have different tastes in games. That being said, I'm glad you're having a good time here!
(If you ever do want to start over, Tattered World does allow multi accounting as long as you're not like, funneling a bunch of rewards from the other accounts to your main, or abusing the referral system. There's also been a few people who started fresh.)
OH NO YOU'VE FIGURED IT OUT
Jokes aside - hopefully it helps to hear that as one of the people who routinely gifts very expensive and premium things, I expect nothing back and will in fact feel very awkward if someone tries to pay me back, or otherwise takes on some form of obligation. We (as in me + other folks in my head) owe a very large personal debt to this site, as it was where we met a lot of people who helped turn our life around for the better. Now that we make an obscene amount of money (tech pays very well in exchange for your soul), we come here and regularly buy up a bunch of gems as a thank you. Sometimes we spend it on ourselves, sometimes we commission friends, sometimes we go ham on the Users Online list. Sometimes we gift users who've been playing forever but are still many gems away from a premium Kith, sometimes we decide to give a newbie something exciting to look forward to for their next Alliance. (Sometimes we'll just go, fuck it! Everyone who's online today gets a Veilious!)
(It helps that the prices here are actually pretty low for what we're used to from online games. See: Guild Wars 2, our other love, with $25 mounts.)
All of this being said, though, I get that it's pretty surreal, and I don't blame you for feeling weird about it. I do want to say, if anyone gifts you a thing and then gets mad that you didn't do something back (even playing a game), they're the asshole, not you. (Easier said than done to remember that, but yeah.) And if you're ever uncomfortable with us, or anyone else on the site, block, block, block. It's okay to do that, no justification needed - you don't owe anyone your time.
(That was a pretty long spiel and I apologize if you were just joking btw! I tend to take things at face value.)

Ah, I wasn't sure about the multi-accounting because a lot of previous sites I've seen don't allow it, and I couldn't find the rules until two seconds ago. Oops.
That sounds fun, though xD I love to give people things for fun, but... I'm usually broke, lol
And then people donate a ton of things anonymously and I'm like "Noooo come back I wanna shower you with gratitude!" I guess my profile will have to do.
Yeah, but anyways, aufjdisjfn thank you so much for everything, yes that includes the Reputation thing, Toyhouse code, Gemwing charm, etc. yeah! XD Aaaand I'm probably getting off topic so I shall stop here.

[P.] [@Larkian] YOU'RE VERY WELCOME! Tbh I saw your (or was it [@Orcality]'s?) bit about you liking birds and knew it was a thing that had to happen. (Speaking of which, I'm glad there's a third bird Kith now and that it isn't premium.)
And yeah, earning shards is pretty slow in the beginning, but once you unlock some of the other Remnants, you can start making big cash through quests. I think Coral Reef and the Shadow Stage tend to be most profitable? (Other oldies, correct me if I'm wrong.) There are also some Hope quests that reward lots of shards for food (Andre's salads and teas, Miranda's spicy food quests, just off of the top of my head). We had a thread for this, but I think we stopped updating it once quest descriptions were changed to explain what rewards you would get. Anyway, that spiel aside, you'll have chances to gift stuff too!
Also if you ever want to yell about anon gifters, this thread exists for precisely that! Although a profile shoutout works too.
(Also, I'm personally cool with conversations meandering in forum threads. The forum is so small and quiet anyway that it's not too hard to follow a conversation. My rule of thumb is less about sticking to a topic, more about whether there are basically multiple conversations happening in one thread. If the thread naturally wanders off as a whole, that's cool - if there's a few asides, that's also cool. But if a thread is made for discussing lore and two people begin debating battle strats at length while the other people are discussing whether the Dollmaker can eat dinosaur-shaped french fries, that's two different conversations happening at once and it's better if the battle strats people move to their own thread.) That being said, mods are free to correct me if I'm wrong.
